RE: New to the sport, New to the forum PICS

All trail riding, im new so im not going to be doing any racing or hardcore jumps or anything. I just want parts that are going to be reliable and not fall off after a year.

RE: New to the sport, New to the forum PICS

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I appreciate the feedback and im already addicted to this hobby. I went out ridin yesterday and this morning. So i need to replace my steering stem and one of the tie rods is bent. I plan on ordering the tusk tie rod kit for 100.00 and I dont know if i should get an aftermarket stem or stock. I was looking at a getting either a Burgard +1 stem for 200 or a stock one for 70.00. Im 6 feet tall so i was thinking the +1 might be good for me. Also im going to order some new DG nerf bars with the heel guards because the old ones were beat and one fell off today. I hit a railroad tie and my rear lugnuts loosened up so now im going to get some new wheels and tires. I want to get some ITP 4 spoke rims and either kenda klaws or ITP Holeshot HD tires. Is there any disadvantage to getting the HD's versus regular holeshots or kenda klaws?

Does not sound like a good deal to me. I would not touch a machine with a new racing cam. Often machines modified to this extent mean you will always be working on them. If you are patient you should be able to pick up 2002 400ex in mint condition with no major improvements for 2000. Also keep in mind this machine does not have reverse. They added reverse to the 400s around 2006 or 7. Most of the subscribers on here will agree that reverse is really important. The sand paddle tires are nice, but only if you really have a use for them. Are there any places to ride sand dunes in MA? The ATV is also missing the rear wheel front wheel liners. There is nothing to keep your foot from slipping back and hitting the tires. I once rode my 300ex, same basic chassis, without the guard on the right side. Twice my foot ended catching the tire. Would never ride that way again. Could have easily broken my ankle. They were probably taken off to install the nerf bars. Haha like i said im clueless about quads and got this because it was local, cheap, and looked like a good starter quad. Worst case scenario the quad doesnt run right because of the cam and i go and get the motor built back to stock. Reverse isnt all that important to me because im not so lazy that i cant hop off the quad and move it myself. Theres no dunes around here but i go up north to maine and nh to canoe and the tires would be good for along the beach, plus they came with the quad. The guy i bought it from told me the paddle tires are real good in snow too. I'll look into getting the guards because it does seem a little dangerous to have no covers over the tires. Thanks for your input man.

That is a good start at $2000. It looks to be an early 2000ish model with cool but dated graphics. From the list of aftermarket parts, it should sound and run pretty well. My nephew did all of that plus The 440 upsize and the +4 extended swingarm for beach drag racing. I would maybe opt for upgraded shocks up front, such as 450R front shocks you may find on ebay. I just purchased an 07 400EX new as a left over model and am waiting for the 1 year warranty to expire before I upgrade the suspension and exhaust. It is not as fast as the 450's or 510's but a great trail machine none the less. Thanks for the suggestions, ive got to get used to riding it before doing any upgrades though.

So ive wanted a quad since as long as i can remember. I always begged my parents for one as a kid but we couldnt afford it. So now im 20 and the money is flowing decently so i finally got one. Originally i was looking at Grizzly's, then i spotted this one for sale right near my house so i took a look and think its the perfect starter quad. Its an 02 400ex with racing cam, edelbrock carb, k and n air filter, white bros exhaust, dg nerf bars, skid plates, itp rims and tires, an extra pair of new itp rims and sandstar tires. I got it for 2000 even. It needs a tie rod, and i need to tighten up a few minor things, and the rear fender is cracked a little bit. Anyways less talk more pics. http://i214.photobucket.com/albums/cc90/johnjj728/002.jpg http://i214.photobucket.com/albums/cc90/johnjj728/003.jpg http://i214.photobucket.com/albums/cc90/johnjj728/004.jpg http://i214.photobucket.com/albums/cc90/johnjj728/005.jpg http://i214.photobucket.com/albums/cc90/johnjj728/006.jpg http://i214.photobucket.com/albums/cc90/johnjj728/009-2.jpg Fits perfect in the bed of this. I mean perfect, shut the tailgate and it hits the rear tires but closes, keeping the quad snug. http://i214.photobucket.com/albums/cc90/johnjj728/058-1.jpg Let me know if you think i got a good deal. Who sells plastics in different colors for this thing? I have a green truck and would love to match the quad. Thanks in advance. Couldnt get the pics to work it says pictures not shown due to my preferences. i went to my preferences and it didnt say anything about pictures. hopefully the links work.
